  • 1 and 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla, and mix until smooth.
  4. Carefully stir in boiling water until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  6. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
  7. Once cool, layer the cakes with whipped cream and sliced strawberries.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add a splash of rum to the batter.
